2011 Public Education Award Recipients

The CDA’s 2011 Public Education Awards were presented at the association’s annual conference in Edmonton, Alberta. The awards are given for excellence in furthering the public’s knowledge of skin, hair and nail conditions and for encouraging healthy behaviours in these areas.

The Canadian Dermatology Association’s Public Education Award in media (print) category was presented to Shannon Cassidy-Rouleau for her children's book Destiny's Purpose.

This children’s’ book is very well-written and is beautifully illustrated. The book tells a tale of a young alpaca, Destiny, and teaches children about the hair condition alopecia. The story is touching and quite informative, it’s a very unique educational tool.

The Canadian Dermatology Association’s Public Education Award in media (print) category was presented to Rhea Seymour, Best Health Magazine for her article Safe Fun in the Sun.

The article, Safe in the Sun, is an excellent, well-researched article that provided readers with a comprehensive review of sunscreens, including ingredient safety concerns and correct usage for optimal photo-protection.

La Roche-Posay

The Canadian Dermatology Association’s Public Education Award in media category was presented to La Roche-Posay for the www.MySkinCheck.ca website.

The myskincheck.ca website and supporting educational campaign materials are excellent resources for patients. The user-friendly interactive site helps Canadians to spot and track skin lesions as well as how to protect themselves from the sun.

Canadian Skin Patient Alliance

The Canadian Dermatology Association’s also awarded the Public Education Award in the not-for-profit category to the Canadian Skin Patient Alliance for magazine Canadian Skin.

The magazine features articles from a variety of health-care professionals, skin patients and patient support groups. It is very professional in presentation, well-organized, and a very popular magazine in dermatologists’ offices as well as a great resource for skin patients.
