Large Group Within Canada – any group learning activity developed or co-developed by a physician organization, university or hospital that meets certain scientific and ethical standards and provides participant interaction is eligible for accreditation under Section 1. To claim Section 1 credits, your activity must be approved by an Accredited Provider and you have received a certificate of attendance confirming your participation. Outside Canada – any group learning activity developed or sponsored by an academic institution, academy, college or specialty society, or physician organization can be claimed under Section 1. It is not necessary for these activities to be approved by an Accredited Provider. For dermatologists, some examples of eligible activities are the AAD Annual Meeting and the EADV Congress. An official certificate of attendance or confirmation of participation is required to claim these activities under Section 1. |
Small Group Any group that is composed of 12 or fewer members can opt to self-register with the RCPSC for Section 1 accreditation. This will be of particular interest for those who like to meet regularly (monthly, bi-monthly, weekly, etc.) to discuss topics of common interest, such as a journal club. Below are links to the RCPSC Self-Approval Tool Kit reference documents and their latest Self-Approval Registration Forms: Self-Approval Tool Kit

Section 5 Example: How do you report a personal practice review? As part of your continuing professional development plan, you decided to complete a review of your management of patients with Type 2 Diabetes. To initiate this review, you spent two hours determining that you wanted to assess (e.g., the degree of glycemic control achieved by your patients, the consistency of the strategies implemented to monitor three complications and your pharmacologic management of two associated conditions). Comparing your practice against the recently published Canadian guidelines, you spent two hours developing an online flow sheet to record relevant outcomes for 20 diabetic patients you later assessed in your office. The review and documentation for each patient took about 30 minutes to complete, totalling 10 hours. In addition, you spent two hours reviewing findings and documenting learning outcomes such as whether your practice met, exceeded or fell below identified standards. You can report 16 hours for this activity under personal practice review (Section 5) within MAINPORT. | |
